Sempergreen® hosted in New York
15 September 2009 – Sempergreen® was hosted in New York from the 4th to the 14th of September. The 400 – year existence of the world city was extensively celebrated there for days. A small piece of Amsterdam called New Amsterdam Village was reconstructed because New York was founded by the Dutch at the time, and the special relationship between them still exists.
Canal Buildings
The Dutch government organised the event in order to give Dutch firms the opportunity of promoting their products. New Amsterdam Village has a mill, twelve traditional grachten panden (covered with Sempergreen® vegetation mats), small shops with Dutch products, and an innovative model horticulture greenhouse. This model greenhouse demonstrates that one can cultivate vegetables and flowers in a durable manner, and can also generate energy in addition.
Royal visit
The ‘little village’ was visited by Princess Maxima and Prince Willem – Alexander. Oscar Warmerdam of Sempergreen® USA had the honour to speak extensively. He enthusiastically described to the princely pair the several (environmental) advantages of the durable Sempergreen® vegetation mats used for a green roof.
You will find some photos of the New Amsterdam Village below. A short film of the opening of the village can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqSSkuv95pE.
