This wonderful indoor living wall was installed by Sempergreen Services at the Westlight Condos in Washington DC. This project, developed by two of DC’s major developers JBG Smith and Eastbanc, contains of a Public Library and a Residential Tower. The 700 sq. ft living wall fills one of the walls in the residential lobby.

Living wall has positive effect on indoor climate and acoustics

This lush SemperGreenwall brings many benefits to the interior of the lobby. For instance, a living wall promotes a healthy indoor climate. Indoor plants act as an air filtering system, making the indoor environment much healthier. The plants in a living wall filter particulate matter from the air and convert CO2 into oxygen. Complaints such as irritated eyes, headaches, sore throats and tiredness diminish. Also, a living wall acts as a natural sound barrier to the building. It absorbs 41% more sound than a traditional wall and this means that the indoor environment is much quieter. Installing a SemperGreenwall in an interior results in a reduction of 8 dB of ambient noise.

Continues root zone for optimal growth

The selected plant mix showcases the different plant styles possible with the Sempergreen Flexipanel. A clean and crisp base layer of plants is naturally interrupted with pockets of lush plantings coming over 24” out off the wall. These larger plants are supported by the strength and structure of the rockwool Flexipanels. The continues root zone created by the rockwool allows the plants to grow roots over the entire surface of the wall. As the living wall is somewhat tugged away and does not receive enough natural light it is supported by artificial lighting.
