The recently built Rotterdam Business School, part of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, is very energy efficient and built with durable materials. The main focus for architect Paul de Ruiter was to create a healthy indoor climate for the students. As a result the design has been awarded a BREEAM-NL Excellent certificate as one of the first educational institutions in The Netherlands.

Increasing biodiversity

On the fifth floor a green roof has been placed, provided with Sempergreen Sedum-grass-herbs blankets. In this vegetation blanket the Sedum plants are supplemented with a variety of flowering herbs and various grasses. This varied and colorful vegetation has a great appeal to bees and butterflies, which in turn contribute to the increase of biodiversity.
