In the quarter ‘Vogelsang’ in the west of German Cologne, the interim school 'SNAKE' was completed in just 16 months of construction time. Originally planned as an extension for the commercial and landscape park TRIOTOP Cologne, the three-storey building complex was redesigned as an interim location for the new comprehensive school ‘Wasseramselweg’ and could be completed in good time before the beginning of the school year 2019/20. The 33-square-meter green wall stands out as the centerpiece of the building. Through the use of different leaf colors, a clear image of a snake can be distinguished in the plant design.

Leaf colors create snake pattern in evergreen showpiece

At first sight, the curved building with its striking brick façade already gives the suggestion of the name of the building: 'SNAKE'. The green facade of 7.4 x 4.5 meters is the eye-catcher of the atrium of the building. The name of the building is even more reflected in the plant design. By using Fortune's spindle (Euronymus fortunei) - with its white-colored leaves - the body of a snake emerges, while the red leaves of the red sedge (Uncinia rubra Everflame) form the head. All plant varieties are evergreen and ensure that the façade remains beautifully green throughout the year.
