Every part of the roof contributes. Rainwater is buffered and nature is given room to grow.
The roof stores water during heavy rainfall and helps cool the surroundings during summer heat.
A diverse planting plan attracts pollinators, birds and native insects. This turns the roof into a thriving ecosystem.
On the way to a climate-neutral district in 2050, that is the ambition of housing corporation Stadlander. In the De Kuil neighbourhood in Bergen op Zoom, important steps are already being taken to achieve this; 171 homes are being climate-adaptively renovated and made more sustainable. Solar panels are being installed on 70 homes in combination with sloping Sedum roofs. Residents have also been given the option to have a Sempergreen Sedum roof installed on their shed or garage box. Completion of this large-scale renovation project will take place in mid-2024.
Residents were involved in the process from start to finish through a sounding board group. All questions and requests were worked out in great detail. One of the spearheads was to make the neighbourhood climate adaptive. Within this framework, sloping green roofs of Sempergreen were installed on 70 houses by Joru Green Solutions. In addition, De Kuil neighbourhood is going completely off the gas, with homes being renovated to gas-free homes.
