Pitched sedum roof Sempergreen Oirschot

A green crown for an apartment building in Oirschot

In the Dutch village of Oirschot, an apartment building on Achterstebocht received a roof that does more than provide protection. The approximately 350 m² pitched green roof combines Pitchedgreen Airflow with smart irrigation, creating a green roofing solution suited to residential construction, renovation and climate-adaptive building.

From pitched roof to living roof

The 350 m² Pitchedgreen roof gives the apartment building an immediate natural appearance.

Vapour-Permeable circular roof system

The demountable Pitchedgreen Airflow system keeps the roof structure healthy while creating an instantly green appearance.

Smart irrigation system

The vegetation is monitored remotely and adjusted to the specific conditions on the roof.

Pitched Green Roof for an apartment building in Oirschot

An apartment building on Achterstebocht in Oirschot has been fitted with an approximately 350 m² pitched green roof. While traditional roofing materials are often used on sloping roofs, this building received a living alternative: Pitchedgreen Airflow. This vapour-permeable green roof system is mounted directly onto the roof battens and simultaneously forms a watertight green roof shell. As a result, the building gains not only a natural appearance, but also a roof that contributes to a healthier, cooler and more future-proof living environment.

A vapour-permeable green roof as a sustainable roofing solution

A pitched roof largely determines the appearance of a building. That is precisely why choosing a pitched green roof is so distinctive. The roof surface transforms from a hard, mineral shell into a planted landscape that lives, changes colour and evolves with the seasons. At this apartment building in Oirschot, the Pitchedgreen roof creates a soft, natural appearance without compromising technical reliability.

The system was developed for both residential green roof projects and renovation projects. The watertight green roof shell is installed directly onto the roof battens. Thanks to its vapour-permeable construction, moisture can escape from the roof structure, helping to keep the underlying roof healthy. This makes the system particularly attractive for residential developments, where speed, reliability and durability are just as important as aesthetics.

Pitchedgreen Airflow as a sustainable roofing solution

Pitchedgreen Airflow demonstrates that a pitched roof can be much more than the uppermost layer of a building. The system is fully demountable and recyclable. As a result, it aligns perfectly with circular construction principles and the growing demand for sustainable roofing solutions that can be disassembled or adapted in the future.

At the same time, the green roof contributes to climate-adaptive construction. The vegetation helps retain rainwater, reduces heat build-up on the roof surface and provides additional habitat for insects. In this way, the roof benefits not only the building itself, but also its surroundings. Especially in residential areas, every square metre of greenery helps create a more pleasant living environment.

A pitched roof that not only protects but also gives something back to its surroundings.

Automated irrigation for a healthy green roof

A pitched green roof places different demands on water management than a flat roof. Water behaves differently on a slope. Rainwater drains away more quickly and moisture is distributed differently across the roof surface. That is why the project in Oirschot focused not only on the correct roof build-up, but also on a solution that keeps the vegetation healthy over the long term.
Together with HB Watertechnologie, an automated irrigation system was installed. The system is monitored and controlled remotely, ensuring that the vegetation continues to thrive even during dry periods. As a result, the roof remains green not only immediately after installation, but also for many years to come. This makes the solution reliable for residents, owners and property managers alike.

The installation was carried out by Easy Sedum on behalf of Van Rijswijck. Projects like this bring together multiple disciplines, from roof construction and fixing techniques to planting and water management. It is precisely this collaboration that ensures all components work seamlessly together.
The combination of Pitchedgreen Airflow, smart irrigation and careful installation has resulted in a green roof that clearly demonstrates how technology and nature can strengthen one another. Rather than being a stand-alone sustainability feature, it is a visible intervention that transforms the character of the building. The roof becomes part of the architecture, the neighbourhood and the climate-adaptive city.

A pitched green roof as an example for residential construction and renovation

This project in Oirschot is an excellent example of how residential developments can be greened without unnecessarily complicating the construction process. The vapour-permeable Pitchedgreen roof provides a sustainable roofing solution suitable for both new-build and renovation projects. The system is technically sophisticated, circular by design and visibly green.

In this way, a traditional pitched roof is transformed into a living roof that contributes to water retention, cooling, biodiversity and living quality. That is the strength of climate-adaptive construction: creating buildings that not only perform well today but are also prepared for the climate challenges of tomorrow.
