The terminal of Rotterdam The Hague Airport, the third biggest airport in the Netherlands, has undergone a considerable renovation. Expansion of the departure hall started in 2018. In 2020, this expansion is provided with 1,750 m2 of Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets. The green roof draws attention in the design and realization of the renovated airport. The installation of the green roof was executed by idverde

Sustainable expansion

According to a design by Moen & Van Oosten Architecten, the existing airport terminal has been extended by 10 meters, over the full length of 100 meters. Sustainability, (day) light and the airport's businesslike and welcoming image have been taken into account. The green roof contributes, among other things, to biodiversity, ensures a more stable indoor temperature and limits flooding during heavy rainfall.

Ready for take-off

Passengers can enjoy the green view during take-off and descend. The Sedum roof is not only beautiful to look at, but it also has other benefits. The plants on the green roof filter particulate matter from the air and convert CO2 into oxygen. This ensures air purification and healthier air surrounding the airport. The Sedum roof also contributes to reducing ambient noise. This provides more peace of mind both inside and outside the departure hall. In short, a valuable addition to this remarkable location.
