In Uden, the new-build project De Bogerd sets a benchmark for sustainable living. Combining a Sempergreen sloping green roof with solar panels, the bio-based design uses wood and natural materials, creating a future-proof, nature-inclusive neighborhood built on shared passion and innovation.
Nature-Inclusive Social Housing with Biobased Design
Multifunctional Surface
Every component of the roof plays a role. Rainwater is buffered, and nature is afforded space to flourish.
Climate adaptive design
The roof stores water during heavy rainfall and helps cool the surroundings during summer heat.
Biodiversity in the Built Environment
A diverse planting plan attracts pollinators, birds, and native insects. This turns the roof into a thriving ecosystem.
A new benchmark in future-proof construction, focused on a green and livable environment. That is the ‘De Bogerd’ new construction project in Uden. This project by housing association Area combines a Sempergreen vapor permeable sloping green roof system with solar panels and is an excellent example of bio-based construction using wood and other natural materials. The cooperation between all parties involved was pleasant, mainly due to the clear joint passion for the project.
Unique new construction project for affordable housing sector
The Bogerd district comprises 40 social housing units of various housing types, on a site previously occupied by 22 houses. A green environment and sustainable housing for a broad target group of residents were the main focus of the new development. All homes are therefore equipped with Sempergreen’s vapor-permeable sloping green roof system, combined with solar panels. In this system, the standard roof tile is replaced by a Green Roof Scale, which results in a nice cost saving. This makes The Bogerd unique in the social rental sector in the Netherlands. Fully reusable and recyclable, the green roof system contributes to a pleasant living environment for residents and a green and sustainable future for the residential area.

Nature-Inclusive Construction with Sloping Green Roofs
The green roofs are a green oasis in the residential area and serve as stepping stones for birds and insects such as bees and butterflies in the area. By applying a sloping green roof on the houses, surrounding parks are connected via the roofs. This form of nature-inclusive design is extremely important at a time when biodiversity is under pressure. Area managing director Jan van Vucht is proud of the new green and sustainable neighborhood. “I think it will be one of the most sought-after places in Uden.”
