Continental Barum Creates Cooler, Greener Workplace

At Continental Barum’s campus in Otrokovice, a 690 m² green roof with drainage, substrate and Sedum mix blankets improves comfort and climate resilience, keeping the building cooler in summer and buffering rainwater during heavy downpours.

A 690 square meter green roof has been installed on the campus of technology company Continental Barum in Otrokovice, Czech Republic. For this flat roof, the traditional green roof construction was chosen, consisting of the three layers of drainage, substrate and Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets. This project was realized by Ekobox. Greenery on the building creates a working environment that is more comfortable and cooler on hot summer days and can buffer more water during extreme rainfall.

Exuberantly blooming green roof contributes to a pleasant working environment

With its 4,500 employees, Continental is one of the largest employers in Otrokovice, a small industrial town in the Zlín region. The production of tires for passenger cars, trucks, buses and industry takes place at this location. From the building, the employees have a beautiful view of the green roof. Research has shown that looking out on greenery significantly contributes to higher employee productivity and lower absenteeism due to illness. The variety of plants in the Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets offers the employees a colourful look that changes throughout the year.
