Frequently asked questions about green roofs

Can a green roof be installed on all types of roofing material?

Yes, if the roofing is waterproof and root-proof, Sempergreen vegetation blankets can be applied to all types of roofing. This applies to flat and pitched roofs.

Do I have to mow my green roof?

No, vegetation blankets are easy to maintain. If desired, vegetation blankets can be pruned, but this is not necessary.

What are the benefits of a green roof?

A green roof offers many benefits: it retains water, purifies the air, reduces temperature, saves energy, increases biodiversity, and extends the lifespan of the roof. In addition, it improves people’s well-being and enhances the value of buildings.

How easy is installation and maintenance?

Installation takes under an hour. The automatic irrigation system—with capillary/wicking method—needs refilling only every 2–4 weeks and includes a grow light.

How much does a green roof weigh?

The saturated weight of a green roof ranges between 40 and 225 kg/m², depending on the system structure and type of vegetation. A traditional Sedum roof weighs an average of 80 kg/m² when saturated.
