Sustainability is the main pillar in the design of the new Hoogvliet supermarket in Woudenberg, The Netherlands. When relocating to a high-profile location Hoogvliet did not want a standard supermarket. That is why Kolpa Architects was commissioned to design a high-quality and sustainable eye-catcher. And with no less than 11 parts of outdoor living walls of Sempergreen, interspersed with glass, this design is a tremendous success.

More than 9,000 evergreen facade plants
When choosing the plants for the green facades, a diverse assortment of evergreen plants is chosen. In total, more than 9,000 plants have been processed in the living walls. This guarantees that Hoogvliet supermarket has a beautiful green appearance during every season, including winter. Thanks to the unique Sempergreen Plant Care System, the plants are supplied with the necessary nutrients and water in a dosed manner. By means of online irrigation control, the living walls can be remotely monitored and adjusted, so that the condition of the plants remains optimal throughout the year. In addition, the evergreen plants provide a good shelter for birds and insects. As a result, the green walls have a positive influence on the biodiversity in the vicinity of the supermarket.
