During a stay at the Warredal recreation park in Belgium, you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a fantasy film. Hidden among the forests are dreamy fairytale homes, tree houses and tiny houses, where visitors can go back to basics for a while. Recently, another special house has been added to the park. The brand new cabin, inspired by Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', is made of the natural material loam and an eye-catching Sempergreen Sedum roof. The flourishing greenery on the roof amplifies its charming style and increases the pleasant atmosphere of the cabin, which makes any visitors want to stay just a little longer.

Sedum-mix blanket Type T especially designed for pitched roofs

Aquaproof Daktari was responsible for the installation of the green roof. Due to the steepness of parts of the design, they chose to use Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets Type T, which have been designed for steeply pitched roofs. This vegetation blanket has plastic reinforcement at the top and the bottom, and in combination with the correct system structure, is highly suitable for roofs with a pitch of up to 45 degrees. Since the roof has an unusual shape and measurements, all of the Sedum-mix blankets have been tailor-made for the cabin and the installation took two days to finish.

First house with green roof at Warredal

This so-called ‘Hobbit House 2’ is the first lodging in the park with a living roof. In the future, there’ll be an even larger diversity of vacation homes in this fairytale-like environment. A visit to the Warredal recreation park is focused on slowing down, simplicity, being together and going back to basics. The flourishing greenery on the roof amplifies its enchanting style and increases the pleasant atmosphere of the cabin.

Green environments increase people’s sense of well-being

Staying in a green environment positively affects people’s wellbeing. Greenery offers relaxation and decreases feelings of stress. Furthermore, it can help to lower blood pressure, relax the nervous system and have a calming effect. It creates a positive flow and brings harmony and balance. The striking green roof, made of Sempergreen vegetation blankets, brings the natural environment even closer to home.
