For the green roof of IKEA in Ludwigsburg, Germany, Sempergreen supplied 9000 m2 of Sedum-mix blankets. The installed vegetation blankets not only look beautiful, but also provide a cooling effect in the summer and extra insulation in the winter. In addition to saving money on air conditioning and heating, this fact also makes a positive contribution to the environment (energy saving, CO2 absorption) and the biodiversity of the surrounding area. Sedum-mix and other vegetation blankets are also the ideal alternative to plugs and cuttings for green roofs.

IKEA as a sustainable company

IKEA's choice of a green roof comes as no surprise. Sustainability is high on the agenda at the company. Furthermore, as a consumer you can choose from more than 4,000 sustainable products. And last but not least, the company has the ambition to be fully carbon-neutral by 2030, using exclusively natural, renewable or recycled materials.

Positive impact on biodiversity in industrial areas

The IKEA in Ludwigsburg is located in an industrial area. Industrial areas such as these benefit greatly from the biodiversity of green roofs, because there is generally little to see. They often form a gray spot in the midst of green rural areas and relatively greener residential areas.

With green roofs, industrial areas can serve as a bridge between the various green areas. For example, they can offer insects the opportunity to move freely from one area to another. In addition, they give local bird species additional nesting locations.
